The Enterprise in ‘Into Darkness’

I mentioned back in my ‘Star Trek: Into Darkness’ post that the Enterprise saw a slight remodel for this movie. The film’s been in cinemas long enough now that I think I can elaborate on that a bit more. But still, it’s after the break to avoid potential spoilers to late comers.

Star Trek: Into Darkness

Without wanting to give away any spoilers; Star Trek: Into Darkness is a brilliant film, easily the years best offering so far. Excellent performances and a well crafted story complement some spectacular action pieces. But I do think I liked the first film a little bit more.

SPOILER FILLED Full thoughts after the jump.

Stunning new Star Trek: Into Darkness trailer

Note to self: Never upset Benedict Cumberbatch.

Definitely the best trailer so far, it gives a much better idea of the plot than any of the previous ones. And I see they’re still trying to trick us into thinking that’s the Enterprise ploughing into the city. Nice try JJ.

Star Trek: Into Darkness Trailer 4

A slightly lighter trailer for the film, sort of refreshing after all the heavy tones of previous trailers. I really hope they manage to keep the near perfect balance between humour and seriousness from the first film.

Some Film Stuff I Missed; Star Trek: Into Darkness and Iron Man 3

Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated . That being said, I’ve been really busy and missed some big stuff…

Star Trek: Into Darkness Trailer 3

Holy hell. That’s some horrific damage the Enterprise has taken. And it’s plummeting to Earth.  I know such damage is a good way to show the seriousness of a situation and doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll be destroyed, but I hope the Enterprise manages to escape it’s seemly ominous fate. I swear to god JJ, if you kill her so soon I will never forgive you.

The trailer has been cut to give the impression that it’s the Enterprise crashing into the water and buildings at the end. But looking closely it’s clear that it’s a different ship, so there is some hope there.

Also, John Harrison is ‘better’…hmm… intriguing.

In related news, with Disney buying Lucas film and having already planned how to milk Star Wars to death (again), JJ has been signed on for the first film. Good choice! He’s one of only two people I think can bring that franchise back from the dead after it committed suicide. The other being Joss Whedon.

Some seem to be angry at him for seemingly abandoning Star Trek, but consider this; at the very least I’d imagine he’ll likely be producing the third film. The way JJ works is to surround him self with capable people to keep things manageable and it honestly wouldn’t surprise me if he still directs it anyway. JJ always seems to have multiple projects on the go. Besides, JJ may have refreshed Trek, but it existed before him and it will continue after him.  Though I have to admit, it would be nice to see him do a full trilogy.

Also, Star Wars is what got him into directing. It’s his dream job. Who can honestly say they wouldn’t leap at the chance to fulfil a childhood dream? Not many get the chance, so good for him I say.

Iron Man 3 Superbowl Trailer

Wow, that aerial rescue looks like it will be stunning. I kinda love the way the suit opens up to release him in this trailer. The Mandarin, though only seen briefly, is still looking to be a mightily impressive villain.

Also; Robert Downey Junior stares into your soul.
